Archevita –Through the Traces of the Ages

A multimedia archaeological exhibition that takes visitors back to the Younger Stone Age to the Early Middle Ages

The aim of the project was to create a modern multimedia archeological exhibition that will take visitors back the Younger Stone Age (approximately 5000 BC) to the Early Middle Ages (around 1000 AD) and will tell visitors the stories and life of our ancestors in an interesting and engaging way. It will also show them the original types of dwellings in a 1:1 scale and interesting archeological finds; all of that in a modern way that will appeal to visitors through generations.

The new interactive exhibition Archevita – Through the Traces of the Ages has found its home in the original barn of the Central Bohemian Museum in Roztoky u Prahy. The museum´s archeological collections consist mainly of findings from excavations of prehistoric settlements and burial sites. Combining these unique collections with modern technology has made possible to bring history to visitors in a fun and playful way. Famous celebrities became the representatives of our ancestors from different stages of the development of the society. Visitors can meet famous Czech actors such as Iva Pazderková, Petr Čtvrtníček or Dan Bárta thank to holographic projections.

Then visitors are shown prehistoric exhibits in the gallery accompanied by models of graves. Skeletal remains are displayed in showcases and are brought to life by video mapping. The children´s visitors will be attracted not only children´s corner but also the playful and educational elements such as the interactive memory game, guizzes or the interactive sandpit that combines real sand with video mapping.

The project was co-financed by the European Fund for Regional Development, the state budget and the budget of the founder of the Central Bohemia Region with a grant of CZK 68 million received in 2018. The total amount exceeded CZK 80 million by pooling other funds.

Mgr. Petra Pecková, Governor of the Central Bohemia Region compared the new Archevita exhibition to successful foreign expositions at the opening ceremony. “Museums “Museums are moving forward and modern technologies make great things possible and when these modern technologies are combined with collections, human creativity and the human potential of researchers, scientists and archeologists they can bring history closer to adults and children in an unprecedented way. Children will stop being bored and throw away their mobile phones. This is the first project of a kind. We will support the modernizations of the expositions and their adaptation to the 21st century.”

Autorka expozice je Mgr. Jana Klementová ze Středočeského muzea v Roztokách prozradila, kdy vznikla první myšlenka na vznik této unikátní a krásné expozice. „Myšlenka vznikla v roce 2006, kdy původní kdy původní expozice Putování pravěkem českého státu byla odnesena Vltavou. V tuto chvíli mohu říci, že cesta k nové expozici byla dlouhá a plná překážek. Nakonec se vše zdařilo a expozice získala nový kabát. Mohu říci, že umístění expozice ve stodole nám umožnilo pohrát si s prostorem světelnou výškou objektu a kombinovat zdánlivě nekombinovatelené. Kombinovali jsme prvky venkovních skanzenů s počítačovými perspektivami, holografickými projekcemi a multimediálními prezentacemi. Prostor nám umožnil moderním a poutavým způsobem prezentovat naše sbírky. Sbírky, které odráží naše téměř 30leté působení na poli regionální archeologie, a které jsou naší chloubou. Naše putování začínáme v mladší době kamenné a končíme na sklonku raného středověku a tento akcent odráží naše působení v rámci terénních výzkumů. Zde jsou naše nálezy především z pravěkých sídlišť a pohřebišť. Archevita má potenciál zaujmout. Na dobrodružné cestě se návštěvník zastaví, pobaví a zároveň poučí."
